Abu Dhabi International Airport is the second largest airport in the United Arab Emirates after Dubai International Airport. It serves over 120 destinations in more than 60 countries and is the home base of Etihad Airways, the country’s second flag carrier airline. The airport has three operational passenger terminals and is located 16.5 nautical miles east of Abu Dhabi city. It was first conceived in 1974 and opened in 1982 to replace the old Al Bateen Airport. The airport features a United States border preclearance facility, making it one of just three such airports outside North America.
